If you had to sum up your Hair Journey in 3 sentences or less, what would they be?
I went to college and then fell into a career in IT sales. Six years later, I decided life was too short not to love what you do. I then enrolled in hair school and have never been happier!
What was that year like during school after making such a huge change?
I spent so much of that year worrying if I made the right choice switching careers. If I could go back… I’d tell myself to relax, have fun, and that I’m on the right track!
What is the most striking issue in the industry?
One issue that has recently been brought to my attention is the exploitation of unethical hair trade practices. It’s important to be mindful of how your hair is sourced, and support companies who promote ethical supply chains.
Why is education so important to you?
Continuing education is so important because not only are trends and techniques are always changing, but there is always more to learn! Also, being a more knowledgeable stylist gives me confidence, which is a vital element to my success. When I’m confident, I’m relaxed, and that is when the magic happens!
3 hairdressers dead or alive you would love to work with…
Oh man, so, so many…
Kristin Ess, because I love everything she does. I’m obsessed with the simplicity and texture of her styles.
Tonyastylist, because I’m convinced she has magical powers. The styles she creates are just nothing short of amazing!
Stephanie Binkerhoff (@hairandmakeupbysteph) – Her work has been a constant source of inspiration for me. I’ve learned so many helpful techniques from her.
Did you ever attend Summer Camp as a kid?
Yes! I attended a summer camp with the Girl Scout’s. I’m expecting hair camp to involve the same amount of hair braiding…. and cookies
Who are you most pumped to see at Hair Camp?
Wow, So many good educators! The line-up is insane. I’m excited to see Marwa Bashir. Her styles are gorgeous!
Tell us a bit about what you are going to be sharing/teaching at Hair Camp.
I will be sharing my best styling tips and tricks, and teaching simple up-styling techniques that look beautiful and are easy to replicate.
I knew I was a Hair Nerd when…
I knew I was a hair nerd when I was nine year old and my mom gave me my first curling iron! I LOVED practicing curling techniques! I walked around with A LOT of forehead burns but eventually figured out how to get BIG, curly hair like my older sister.
