Hairroin Hair-Venture
An afternoon creating human taxidermy hairpieces followed by a vodka fueled salon bash and swag bags full of amazing Sebastian products is a Hair Nerd's fantasy... and for one day in October it was our reality. While chatting with Janine Jarman, owner of Hairroin, after a class, Janine invited us Hair Nerds to assist at Hairroin Salon's 5th Birthday Bash at The Colony Nightclub.
Side Note: When asked to give one piece of advice about the industry Janine shared the importance of learning to take a good picture. She relayed the necessity of finding the smile and stance that works best for you...hopefully avoiding looking like a goob in all of your pictures. This is a skill I was struggling with as you will see!
Super excited but trying to play it cool we committed on the spot and piled our asses into the car and headed down south. After hours of loud music, deep bonding conversations and finally checking into our room, we made a bee line to Foxy Friday for blowouts & drinks to kick off what was to be the weekend we would never forget.
For a stylist, entering Hairroin is like a child entering a candy store. You immediately want to touch everything and dash from chair to chair to watch the talented individuals that call this place their home.
The next day it was time to get busy and the creative juices were flowing. Each mirror encompassed an image of Hairtopia. It was an extraordinary thing to watch the assembly of such masterful work and feel the awesome vibe of a team well built.
We were hands on the whole day... assisting in the making of wired hairpieces and even breaking out the power tools to nail gun huge display boxes together. Once the Sebastian filled swag bags were ready and the hair was all in place we piled everything (along with Janine’s hair pieced taxidermy babies) into our cars and headed over to The Colony.
Cut to the red carpet and we were instantly transformed into clip board yielding, swag bag guarding rock stars. We guarded the door with the hilarious Big Davon “D” McDonald making sure only the Hairroin VIPs and the Colony worthy patrons to pass through the doors of coolest club in town. Girls yelled, screamed and pleaded to enter. A few of the crazy rejected ones thought they were incognito and threw themselves over the fence swiftly being removed by security. We were laughing so hard, wondering why all these people so desperate & crazy to get in wouldn’t just walk over to the other (shorter)line and all chip in for a table and call it a night…
But the shenanigans kept right along when two drunk girls thought they were being sneaky and stole gift bags on my watch. Immediately, I began running down the hallways of the club to catch these perpetrating hoochies like I was in charge of guarding the crown jewels. Luckily, they sheepishly handed over the bags apologizing so no one had to get hurt. Obviously, I was taking my job very seriously this night!
Once all of our guests were set with drinks and the bags of love were safe from harm, we hung up our stylist caps and enjoyed the party. Just as we were getting started Amanda was knocked onto the VIP table by a girl who had been partaking in the fun a" little too much" . Her life flashed before her eyes as she wiped out the entire spread and landed on the pour bottle!
Being totally hardcore.. Amanda didn't let a little thing like near death ruin her evening... she gracefully filled her cup and got on with the party. We laughed and mingled and made new friends.
Installations of human taxidermy made for a great coversation starter.
The live art busts were so much fun and helping with the creation made them seem even more incredible to us.
For one night, we were part of the event that all of us stylists aim to throw one day, and although the night and weekend ended so fast; it was filled with so many laughs, so much knowledge and tons of gratitude…
Thank you Hairroin! We wish you a very Happy 6th Birthday and thank you for letting us be apart of the 5th. You’ll be sure to see The Hair Nerds getting our "Foxy Friday" on at your new location in the near future!
