What inspired you to enter the beauty industry?

I graduated high school and checked out a local cosmetology school, but at the time, I took others opinions into consideration rather than putting myself first. I was told that I wouldn’t make any money, that I would struggle to make ends meet every month, and I wouldn’t get anywhere with this profession. With that being said, I went to a community college where I changed my major THREE times. I went from Culinary Arts, to Social Work, to Nursing. None of these seemed to fit my life, and I was miserable.

I decided shortly after my 24th birthday that I just needed to do what I wanted to do with my life, and not listen to the negativity from others. I went to three schools before I chose Regency. I couldn’t be happier with my choice, and I feel at home. I didn’t choose the hair life… the hair life chose me. (Yeah, I went there.)

I believe competing is important because…

Getting outside of your comfort zone means that you’re growing as a person and as a professional. I make it a point to challenge myself every day. I try new techniques, experiment, and push myself every chance I get. Competing gets your name out there and shows the world what you’re capable of. It’s an opportunity to grow and network with other professionals.

I would trade my best friend before I would live without this product…

WELLA LUXE OIL RECONSTRUCTIVE ELIXIR. It is like the Hair Gods themselves created this lightweight nourishing oil. It creates a flawless, frizz-free blow-dry every time.

In five years, my dream is to be…

Working for a professional product line and sharing knowledge with the world! I would love to work for Wella and go around and talk about the color line and products. It’s two of my favorite things wrapped into one profession… Doing hair and inspiring others.

Who are you most inspired by and why?

There are two people that I am very inspired by. First, would be my instructor, Miss Trina Barandela. She is like my beauty mother figure. She inspires, challenges, and teaches me with every interaction. She’s an amazing stylist and colorist, and I am blessed to have had not only her mentor me, but also a great friendship.

Secondly, would be Sam Villa. I watch his YouTube videos every day, read his articles, and pretty much am absolutely indulged in his plethora of knowledge. He thinks outside of the box and is quite frankly a hair genius. The day I meet him is the day I can die happy.

What was your reaction to finding out you were in the final 6?

I literally ran around my house like a mad woman screaming, “I’M GOING TO NEW YORK CITY!” I also was singing and doing a solo dance performance of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” in the middle of my kitchen. I have no shame.
