Professional Beauty Association Helps Create Roadmap for Personal Care Industry Reopening Guidelines in California
Today, the California Governor's office announced new Covid-19 guidelines for the expanded personal care industry, effectively lifting many restrictions statewide to reopen at a 25% indoor capacity for services that require touching a person's face, such as facials, electrolysis, waxing, nail services, body art professionals, tattoo and piercing, and massage therapy. Working closely with the Governor's office and its membership base, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) was able to help build the roadmap for all sectors of the professional beauty industry to get to this point. The association has been at the frontline serving as the voice of the industry and as a valid resource with meaningful research and analytics, member experiences, and ongoing communication to help propel the industry towards this expanded reopening.
"Collaboration, data, and personal member stories have helped to ensure the professional beauty industry has been thoroughly represented with the state of California," shares Steve Sleeper, Executive Director of the Professional Beauty Association. "We will continue to work with the state to ensure that the industry maintains its representation and empowerment as we head into the winter months."
In addition to the state's new guidelines for expanded personal care services, PBA has established Recommended Guidelines for salons and spas to follow including increased sanitization measures, installing plexiglass or acrylic partitions, removing coffee and amenity stations, imparting electronic-only transactions, requiring face masks, staggered appointments and waiting in cars, having clients show up with clean hair, and more. The PBA has also launched its GBAC STAR accreditation program in association with GBAC, the Global Biorisk Advisory Council. GBAC, a division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, was created to specifically deal with pandemics with absolute effectiveness and integrity and ensure the highest degree of safety for you, your staff and your clients.
