So California can do hair outside now...

Some people may be saying “hey doing hair outside is progress right?” WRONG. if you are saying doing hair in a parking lot with an easy up is a step in the right direction, then you might as well allow us to do hair at home. and quite frankly, that’s exactly what this decision will be driving people to do. I can promise without a shred of doubt that my studio is EXCEEDINGLY MORE SANITARY THAN A PARKING LOT. this news is absolutely insulting. If Gavin Newsom made this decision working with State Board I am even more disappointed. For YEARS state board has upheld us to insanely high standards of sanitation, a $100 fine for a loose hair in a hair brush drawer, and now you want to tell us it’s SANITARY to do hair outside??? If this decision was made merely because we operate indoors and no effort was made to gain information on our background in daily sanitation operations, i hate to say i’m not surprised. since the dawn of time people think we “just do hair” our industry has always been taken less seriously than others and i have yet to understand why that is.

The fact this decision has been made hurts us even more. with ONE more hurdle of permits to work outside, only allowing minor services to be done, this is still a huge problem- NOW we are given the “go ahead” to work, so rent will not be waived, unemployment will not be had and really we aren’t able to do more than half of what actually makes money! We had a plan to set up a portable shampoo bowl outside and try to make a cute outdoor set up, because we are fortunate enough to have a private parking lot-but upon further diving into the regulations it’s not even allowed! so what really are you ALLOWING us to do?
