Carley Throgmorton

This Taylor Andrew Alumni is doing BIG things in the industry after winning the Matrix Share the Love Competition and traveling with Matrix for a year. She is now a Share the Love ambassador and employed full time at Dallas Roberts Salon, a Taylor Andrews Master salon. She’s active in our favorite charity, The Trade, and will be traveling to Cambodia later this year. We only see amazing things ahead for this up and coming star. Carley is nominated for New Hairstylist of the Year and Beacon winners will have the pleasure of meeting Carley at the open mic forum.

Your color choices are vivid and eye catching. Where did your inspiration come from?

I was inspired by the ribbon candy you get at Christmas time, I picked colors that would be sure to draw the eye in.

As a newer stylist, who do you look up to in the industry and pull your inspiration from?

I look up to so many people but I’ve found a lot of strength in the female powerhouses in the industry. Us girls have to stick together! People like, Ann Bray, Sandra Smith and Tabatha Coffey.

You have been traveling with Spread the Love for the last year. What have you taken from this experience?

The most valuable thing I took from my spread the love experience was that no mater what you have to stay true to who you are. There will always be someone who tries to tell you you aren’t good enough but never listen to those people! THEY ARE WRONG! And most importantly, never be afraid to go for it. That’s how I’ve gotten where I am, I just kept putting myself out there and going for my dreams!

Any crazy moments on NAHA shoot day?

YES! My pieces completely weren’t working the day of the shoot. Within the first 4 minutes of shooting I pulled my model away and completely changed her look. We ended up shooting until 4am evolving the collection. Some very wise advice from my photographer, Keith Bryce, helped me step back and view things from a new perspective. My team was so amazing and supportive, though. Even when I was ready to throw in the towel, they wouldn’t let me!

As a Taylor Andrews alumni, what was the most valuable piece of advice you were given?

The most valuable advice I was given at Taylor Andrews was that this industry is about sharing our gifts with others, whether that be with clients that sit in our chair or other stylists. I made a promise to myself early on that no mater where I go in the industry that I would always be excited and willing to share what i know!

What’s Next?

Right now is a beautiful time in my life, i’m at a crossroads once again where I am trying to decide whats next. I have always been an advocate for helping others so I’m looking for more ways that I can reach out and give back. My salon, Dallas Roberts, is planing to work with Support the Trade. We’ll be going to Cambodia to work with girls who have been rescued from the slave trade and train them how to do hair so they have a means of supporting them selves.

I knew I was a Hair Nerd when…

I became socially awkward at events and gatherings because all I would talk about is hair! Oh and when I started using hair clips to keep bags of chips closed!
