Eco Travel - HairVenture Hacks

I have this really amazing sister who is on a mission to save the planet one plastic straw at a time. She may not be making an impact like Greta Thunburg or Aditya Mukarji, but as a mother of 4 in a family of 6, she is sure making a big change in her home and travel adventures and has greatly inspired me to do the same.

Her family uses reusable straws, brings their own glass Tupperware when eating out, reusable shopping bags and produce bags are always on hand and her home is filled with environmentally friendly cleaning products and other cool things.

It’s been a great bonding experience to ask her about her favorite low-impact travel items and what cool new way she can lower her footprint. My sister is my hero in so many ways, but always helping me open my eyes is a big reason.

Here’s some of the awesome eco-friendly #hairventure travel items that are low-impact and big budget savers… in the long run.

BIODEGRADABLE ORAL CARE

Bamboo toothbrushes and silk floss are your BFF's for both travel and home oral care. The packaging, floss and toothbrush’s are 100% biodegradable and the floss comes in a refillable glass container for zero waste, healthy teeth.

Watch me try these items for the first time here!

Chewables

Tablet toothpaste and mouthwash are the wave of a plastic-free future! The toothpaste comes in compostable paper packaging and the mouthwash tabs from Lush, come in 100% recycled plastic. It’s a small way to make a big impact.

I read A LOT of articles before purchasing these Dent Tabs because there are so many different tablet toothpastes coming on the market, I wasn’t sure I was going to get the right one. I settled on these because they’re almost packaging free, vegan, has 125 tabs and is also fluoride free. They’re from the UK, so shipping can take a little while, even with amazon prime, but they have quick shipping options at checkout.

These awesome little mouthwash tabs I found at Lush and was pretty excited to add them to my basket. I love almost everything from Lush and the fact that they’re not liquid, so I don’t have to worry about TSA, makes it a no-brainer.

Solids

"Naked" is now!

Solid's are a packaging free way to help eliminate what is going in the garbage. These solid body washes from Lush come naked, which means no packaging at all, like their bath bombs. I am absolutely obsessed with the orange one on the left. It’s The Olive Branch naked shower gel and the smell is my most favorite.

A new fav product of mine is solid deodorant by Ethique. It comes in a compostable box and is equivalent to the same amount of product (if not more) as in a regular bar you would buy at the drug store. I’ve been using natural deodorants for years now since I’m allergic to most OTC products, but also can’t use many of the natural brands out there. So far, I haven’t had any rashes from the Ethique brand and adore the way it smells. They also make solid shampoo, conditioner, body wash and facial cleansers.

You may be wondering what I put these products in when I’m traveling so they don’t rub off on anything - and I’ll answer that question when we get to accessories!

Reusable Makeup wipes

Erase your face with these reusable makeup wipes. I love that theres no trash here - just throw in the wash and use again and again! These are crazy soft on your skin and no harsh chemicals are used to make them. You only need warm water and these ultra-soft, woven polyester-blend cloths get rid of tough makeup without leaving behind residue - just fresh, healthy skin.

Zero-Waste

Say goodbye to plastic!

I did it.. I spent some real dollars on a reusable straw. I bought the FinalStraw, which is the original, patented silicon straw we all saw on Shark Tank and raised over 1.8m on kickstarter. I’m happy knowing I will make a turtle say thank you every time I use it.

Say "buh-bye" to ziplocks forever! As a huge snacker when I’m traveling I love knowing that I wont be creating a bunch of trash from grabbing snack sized goodies from the gas station. These reusable bags from Hello Moon are crazy cute and come in 3 sizes - 2 large sandwich sized, 1 medium and 1 snack sized. Let’s be honest though… the large ones are really snack sized.

They’re food safe, dishwasher safe, have kid friendly zippers and it honestly will just make you feel good knowing you’re using something environmentally friendly.

Sustainable accessories

I LOVE my new travel accessories!

This pill box is made of cereal shell fiber which is totally eco-friendly. Im able to store all my daily med’s and use one of the compartments for my toothpaste tabs.

I’ve wanted to get these silicone ear swabs since I first heard about them. I use q-tips all the time with my makeup and having the reusable silicone ones is a great way to cut down on use of cotton.

OK, so - storing my “naked” products. These were my body wash & deodorant, but I love my professional hair care too much and am not willing to give it up - yet. So, what I do is cut a chunk off my body wash and store it in the Ethique shower storage container. It’s the aqua colored box in the photo. It’s made of bamboo & sugarcane, vegan and 100% compostable. It feels really durable and will protect my solids during travel and while in the shower.

And the last thing I’m excited to give-a-go (again) is my new Flex Cup. I have used other style menstrual cups in the past and - oh man - let’s just say there is a TrendVision I will never forget. It wasn’t good… it was very murder scene in my show clothes.

So far, I am loving the Flex Cup and haven’t had a single, murderous issue. The fit is great, I don’t feel it and it’s super easy to take out with there unique pull string design. Just make sure to watch which size you are getting.

We hope you join our eco-travel movement and fall in love with planet-friendly items like we have!
