Hair Nerd X Sassoon Week 2 & 3

Our contributor, Steve Kim, was invited to take the 6 week course at Sassoon Academy. Lucky for us, he documented the experience. Here’s a recap of his time there.

I decided to combine weeks 2 and 3 together as things got really hectic for myself. I got assigned to a lot of side gigs as well as personal obligations that came to call for me.

Week 2: While during the first week you’re introduced into the world of the ABC cutting system, as the weeks progress its more of a in-depth focus on each individual technique involved, as well as dealing with the nuances and intricacies that go along with tackling a lot of it. During week 2 I had a lot of interesting and increasingly difficult clients, but that was a great experience to go through as it makes you really appreciate your clients back home! it all also makes you challenge yourself and create dialogue and communication lines to really get down to what your customer wants. At the end of the day were in a service industry pleasing people! It was awesome going over and the intricacies, as I’ve stated before Matthew is a VERY thorough hairdresser and his demos are pretty long, however it shows you why his looks are always so perfect. It also shows you how much attention to detail you really need involved within haircutting!

Week 3: Enter week three barbering, I feel like everyone would associate barbering with the emphasis being men right? Well, I guess I don’t see it that way recently there’s been an increasingly bigger draw to the female population receiving barbering services (which is pretty cool! off with the hair! :P) anyway a lot of what we went over in barbering was the emphasis of bone structure as well as the importance of how we can make certain techniques give us more masculine looks! I think we can still make a woman look beautiful with techniques that would create more masculine effects in a sense. Which is what one of the Sassoon Collections is sort of about! Anyway during week three its been generally work sessions (which is when you work on live models, another perk of coming to Sassoon!).

This concludes my week 2 and week 3 analysis! Thank you and I hope everyone enjoys his or her memorial day!

Stevienaysayer over and out!
