Competing in competitions is incredible experience for students… We think all students should take the leap!
North American Trend Vision Awards is at the heart and soul of what we live for… Every year we wait to see the Top 25 semi-finalists and then the finalists leading their models down the runway. We can’t help but get excited as we think back to our very first NATVA and how it helped shape our futures.
Tell us about the moment you knew that one day you would be a hair stylist?
When I was younger, I would butcher my barbies hair with my children’s scissors. But growing up in a society that enforced gender norms, I always secretly wanted to be one, and provided the opportunity as an adult on the pursuit of happiness, going to school was a necessity.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Since Vegas, I have received so many career opportunities. I luckily was asked to apprentice someone, and that person is exactly where I see myself in 5 years! She embodies professionalism, self expression, love, and SO much knowledge.
How does competing help you as an artist?
As someone who isn’t naturally competitive, it really pushes me to do my best. Competing and placing has helped me so much in my trade, and outside my trade. Competing also gives you a chance to step back, and hear so many perceptions of your work, and with those perspectives you can grow so much. Competing has totally left me hungry for more.
What one word describes how you felt when you found out you were a finalist?
Humbled
What’s one thing you would have told yourself on the first day of cosmetology school knowing what you know now?
Stop beating yourself up, and be more kind to yourself! We are always our worst critics. I actually once said in the beginning of school that I didn’t think this industry was for me.
What do you think the biggest struggle stylists are experiencing in the industry today?
As a recent graduate, I would say continuing of education. But this industry has taken a turn from cut throat to self empowering, and I am loving every bit of it!
Something most people don’t know about you.
Ive always wanted to be on reality television. Seriously has been my dream since middle school. So anybody out there that is interested, let me know!!
What traumatic hairstyle have you been guilty of rocking?
When I was younger I totally had a chili bowl, and no ma’am, it wasn’t cute.
I knew I was a Hair Nerd when…
Well I’m definitely a nerd, and hair is my forte, so as soon as I saw the two words together, I identified immediately!!
