Chrissy Teigan (call me!), Victoria and David Beckham (duh) and one of my fave stylists eva’, Mikey Teeze! With his love of aliens and the universe reflecting through his eclectic, unconventional and yet masterful works of hair art, how could you not want to know him? His positive outlook on life, love of education and brilliants collabs had me not only asking him for an interview, but crossing my fingers he’d agree to be my BFFL. (Best friend fo’ life!)

What would Mikey tell little Mikey on the first day of Beauty School?

I think I would tell my little self at the first day of hair school it’s going to be a fun journey of unlimited learning, meeting amazing talented inspirational people and that the passion for this craft will only gain more and more but you have to believe in yourself every step of the way, even when it gets tough. Ok real talk, how many sleeveless, muscle shirts do you own? (Not that we’re complaining!)

Haha!! Sleeveless shirts are so comfy! You get that breeze but honestly real talk.. half my wardrobe is sleeveless I mean I do live in Cali lol

What traumatic hairstyle have you been guilty of rocking?

The flat top… I was in 6th grade and my dad gave me my haircut in the bathroom

Do you have a catch phrase, or something you say ALL the time?

I don’t know if I have a catch phrase but I find myself saying “goodvibes” a lot, I feel that it helps set good intention and energy

Who is your Hair-Hero?

Ahhhh hair hero!? That’s a hard one .. but I feel like someone that truly inspires me as a hair stylist as well as a person out of the salon is mr. Philip Wolff, his cutting skills are on point, he knows style, his personality is awesome and his work ethic is inspirational. Love u broham!

What’s the best, trivial, cash cab worthy Mikey fact!?

So only a few people know this but I’m terrified of going in the ocean, it freaks me out that I can’t see below me and the 1 time I did go on the ocean fully was in Thailand and I got stung by a sea urchin … not fun, took it as a sign to keep my ass outta the ocean

What is the secret sauce that inspires your work?

Secret sauce .. yes

Honestly I think it’s other hair stylists and barbers who step out of the norm and create these haircuts you hardly see, I like creating cuts for people that no one else has and that you hardly see, I think it’s awesome to be the ONLY 1 walking around with that specific cut or color and being able to rock it! Edgy, futuristic, clean, unique cuts open my vision to so many possibilities for creating.

Create the dream… I don’t chase it, I create it.

This way of thinking has dramatically changed perspective on what I see in my future and how I will receive it. When I envision and see and think and talk about what I will create in my life , magic happens and the Universe works with me, the only thing that stands In-between me and goal/dream is his little funny made thing called “time” . Don’t let fear stop you from achieving your dreams and goals

Real talk – how often are you examining haircuts when you’re not in the salon

Omg it’s like a blessing and a curse! Lol

I look at people’s hair literally every where I go , sometimes I catch myself with friends and when a group of girls walks by they are commenting on them being a babe or hott or whatever it is, and I’m over here like.. “dude did you see her highlights tho, so badddd” Or “bro you could see her weave popping out, I wish I could go fix it” hahah. At the end of the day you do get what you pay for

What’s your post work, shameless guilty pleasure?

After a long day at the salon depending if I ate or not I’m most likely going to the gym and getting in the zone with some hardcore jams or reading a good book and relax with some tea and my crystals

I knew I was a hair nerd when some friends of mine and I got together and one day just started talking formulas for color and my other friend that doesn’t do hair was like.. what’s a level 10, and 7n? what are all These numbers you guys are talking about..? My response was.. hair nerd stuff hahaha
