Tell us how you found out you had been chosen for Team P&G? And did you almost die from excitement?
I found out I was chosen for RAW from Paula Rufo. I checked my Facebook and saw I had a message from her. In her message she told me that she had some very exciting news for me and for me to call her ASAP or give her my number so that she could call me.
Ummm, of course I called right away! This must be important if Paula is writing me over Facebook! When I called, she explained that I had been chosen to represent P&G in the first ever RAW Competition at Premiere Orlando.
I had heard about the competition at the stylist choice awards in Chicago so I kinda already knew what it was about.. As Paula kept explaining to me what it was about, I have to admit, my mind went a little blank. I couldn't even believe it!! I was still in school!
After I hung up the phone with Paula, I immediately called my best friend and mentor.. my mom. Tears of joy started streaming down my face. How could this 18-year-old girl from Victorville get chosen for this?! My mom couldn't believe it either. Next, I called my mentors Marylle Koken and Oliver Shorthall to explain the amazing news!
What P&G product are you in love with?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Velvet Amplifier!!!!!!
Which classes/ techniques have blown your mind ?
Anything my mom teaches me in color absolutely blows my mind. She's a color genius. Anything my mentor Marylle Koken teaches me for styling and cutting blows my mind.
You still have an action packed week ahead but up to this point what has been the most exciting or enlightening moment in this experience?
The most exciting part of this journey so far was the very first day I met my team. Meeting them and getting to know them was so amazing. We really opened up to each other about ourselves and what inspires each of us. It was an amazing day.
How would you describe your artistic style?
I love having the color accent the shape and style. I love texture, and building shapes with the hair.

Team ICAN is absolutely amazing. The bond that we all now share is unbreakable. This group of people is so unbelievable. The members of my team have all accomplished so much and are so talented it is ridiculous. We push and motivate each other to be the absolute best we can be. I have made some life long friends because of this.
How do you feel being part of Team P&G will change your life?
Being apart of this team has already changed my life. Being around these amazing artists and being able to learn from them is a life changing experience. I'm 18 and I'm about to be sharing one of the biggest stages with my team. Talk about life changing! Incredible. I am so blessed and so humbled to be apart of this team.
I knew I was a Hair Nerd when…..

Tell us how you found out you had been chosen for Team P&G? And did you almost die from excitement?
I found out about the competition RAW by my area supervisor who heard from P&G and were looking for one more teammate to complete their team. I had filled out a questionnaire and sent in pictures of my work to the office of P&G where they would review all the applicants who had applied to be chosen for the last team member.
It was a day after I turned in my application that I heard from Hilary Handshuh that I had been chosen to be apart of the team. I was told that the review committee was impressed with my application and my dedication and passion for hair.
My initial reaction was shock and excitement; I was so excited that I started crying with tears of joy. For myself, this experience couldn’t have come at a better time in life. I always tell myself to try things once because you never know when something may happen.
Where do you find inspiration?
Architecture is what inspires me right now.... Architecture and hair go somewhat hand in hand. In both areas you must start with a strong sound base to build upon. Without this base your building or hairstyle will fail to reach its full potential. Once the base is reached and the support is there that is when an architect or stylist can branch out and create something bigger and better because it has something to support itself. It’s the ability to have a base to let the design come to life and wow those around you.
What 3 Sebastian Products have you fallen in love with?

What has been the most exciting or enlightening moment during this experience?
In this experience so far there are so many things that have enlightened me and brought my love and passion for hair to the next level. I have been so amazed by everyone in the P&G company that we have been given the chance to work with. Each and every person that we have talked to has been able to give us input and helped make our looks pop or stand out to the next level by just tweaking piece of hair here and there.
I have been given the opportunity to work with our amazing mentor Diego. He has been nothing but helpful and making us better stylists by pushing us to work to our full potential. I have also had the chance to work with Fabio Sementilli who blows my mind away with techniques he has shown me to give more volume to a hairstyle or how to position hair to give it a different look. Through Diego and Fabio’s help we are going to give the audience a bomb hair show that they will remember.
How would you describe your artistic style?
I would describe my style as being a modern classic. I chose modern because I like to keep up with the latest trends of today. I chose classic because I keep those classic pieces from the past in my wardrobe. Pulling from the modern trends of today and the classic pieces from the past I am able to create a modernly classic look of my own.
Tell us about your career so far.
I have set many goals for myself from the beginning of my career in the hair industry. The first goal of my career was to one day be on main stage showing everyone the talent that I have to built and sculpted with hair into different forms and shapes. As a new stylist, having just been licensed for a year working in the salon, this opportunity came along. Little did I know that this dream would have come true so early on in my career. I had always told my teachers in school that they would see me one day on stage helping others expand their knowledge and creativity to the next level. Now I’m going to Florida to compete with the team to give the audience and judges an amazing hair show and having one of my goal realized.
Tell us about Team I.C.A.N.
Team I.C.A.N is a group of five stylists with the passion, ambition, dedication, and willingness to learn and take in all the new knowledge that is sent our way from stylists who have been in the industry and who had once been in our shoes. All five of us stylists are young but we aren’t letting that stop us because we have the creativity and will power to go out there and show the stylists of the world what we have. I know that our team will be coming to Orlando Florida to compete in RAW with full force.
How do you feel being part of Team P&G will change your life?
I feel like being a part of Team P&G will change my life in so many ways. Not only have I learned so many new ideas to make my style better now but I have also set my goals and dreams for my career so much higher than I ever expected to. I have always had it in my heart to give back to others because I was once given that chance when I was little at another chance at life. I too want to share my experience with others in the hopes of one day being a mentor; to give the chance to another stylist to expand their knowledge in the beauty industry.
I knew I was a Hair Nerd when….
I knew I was a Hair Nerd when I was in high school when all I would love to do is play with my friends hair and always want to come up with new hairstyles for the cheer team I was on. Then after finishing high school I proceeded to college and after two years knew that wasn’t the career direction I wanted to be in. I then proceeded to the cosmetology industry and are where my inspiration, love, passion and dedication comes. For myself in life, I always wanted to have a job that I loved and always wanted to go to work every day; well I truly found it. I am a Hair Nerd and so very proud to be one.
